Prof. Dr.-Ing. Achim Kampker was born in 1976 at Moers. From 1995 to 2000, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the RWTH Aachen University, specializing in Production Technology.
In 2004 and following additional research as an Academic Assistant at the Institute for Production Systems at the Machine Tool Laboratory of the RWTH University (the WZL), he acquired a doctoral degree in Engineering Studies and continued his employment at the WZL in his new capacity as Executive Senior Engineer until 2006. Achim Kampker received the Borchers Medal (awarded for doctoral theses of exceptional quality) and acquired a Master’s Degree in Business Administration / Technology Management (eMBA) from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
From 2009 to 2013, Achim Kampker was Head of the Institute for Production Management at the WZL of the RWTH Aachen University. In 2009, he was also appointed Chairman of the university’s Office for Electromobility.
Achim Kampker is a co-founder of StreetScooter GmbH (he also served as the company’s CEO until April 2019), which successfully developed the "StreetScooter" van, a battery-powered vehicle for the transport and delivery of goods. Deutsche Post also appointed him as their Special Representative for Electromobility Issues.
Since January 2014, Achim Kampker has been the Director of the newly established Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) at RWTH Aachen University. The Institute for PEM conducts research into all segments of the automotive value chain in which electromobility is of relevance.
Since August 2020, Achim Kampker has also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Fraunhofer IPT’s Battery Cell Production Research Project.
In January 2021, he was appointed Vice-Dean for Teaching at the Department for Mechanical Engineering at the RWTH Aachen University.
In addition to his academic commitments, Achim Kampker has been involved in a large number of sustainability initiatives. His association Ingenieure retten die Erde e.V. ("Engineers to the Rescue of Planet Earth") has been designed to reconcile humans and nature, attempting to ensure that engineers and members of related occupations view such a reconciliation as the mandatory moral foundation for all of their professional activities.
Kampker was also appointed to the Electromobility Expert Council of the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia and to the expert committee in the German government's Automotive Industry Future Fund. He is also a member of the founding commission Agency for Leap Innovations (SpingD).
